About Our Name

Our clients often ask about our name: SpinsterSound.  "Isn't spinster a term for an old maid?".  Well, not exactly...  You see, my wife and I were married in the Cayman Islands (a British Colony), and our wedding certificate clearly listed us as:

    Eric Anderson, Bachelor
    Felicia Puchalski, Spinster

In other words, spinster is the British term for bachelorette.

When the time came to name our growing DJ business, Felicia suggested SpinsterSound, liking the double entendre of spinning records and working frequently with bachelorettes.  The name stuck!

What We Do

SpinsterSound is a full-service mobile DJ company.

We can provide:

MC Services and Reception Coordination.  Even if you have a coordinator, the person who handles the minute-by-minute is usually your DJ.

SpinsterSound knows wedding receptions: we're personable, well dressed (typically in a tux), we're happy making announcements and introductions, and we'll deftly ensure that your reception/party flows the way you want it to.

Extensive Song Library.  Nearly 10,000 songs, including all the great songs from the past and present are available at our fingertips in our extensive, licensed music library.    If you need something we don't have, we'll get it.

Concert-Rated Equipment.  Don't get us started on the oversized boomboxes used by some mobile DJs.  SpinsterSound brings one of the most efficient and well-designed sound systems available, so we sound clean, powerful, and deep at every show.  We never sound shrill, distorted, or overdriven, even in large rooms with limited AC power.

A Friendly Ear.  And not just an ear for music.  We also listen to our clients and give them exactly what they want.  During our consultation with you, we'll ask about the mood, the ages of the guests, special attendees, as well as musical preferences.  We tailor each event especially for each client.

Dance Floor Lighting.  Many people underestimate the importance of lighting on a dance floor.  But there's a reason popular clubs have great lighting - It's fun and it makes people want to dance.  We include some lighting in all of our wedding packages, including some truly remarkable lights in the high-end packages.

Ceremony Services.  When you need background music and PA for your ceremony, SpinsterSound is ready: we have wireless mics and portable, battery-powered sound systems.

Karaoke.  Popular at company parties and gaining popularity at weddings - Karaoke adds an element of unexpected fun to a party.

Experience

Eric loves to get people dancing.  He has performed as a keyboardist, bassist, and singer in professional bands from the age of 19.  As a member of one of the Rocky Mountain region's top alternative dance bands in the 90's, he has shared the stage with Smashing Pumpkins, Bella Fleck and Oingo Boingo.

Eric has both performed and handled sound & lighting for well over 500 events, including difficult live concert settings.  He also owned and operated a multi-track recording studio in Denver, in the days when a recording studio couldn't fit in a bedroom.

Hundreds of live performances, musical training, constant sound-engineering challenges and the need to quickly read a crowd (a survival skill for a live dance band) transformed Eric into a formidable mobile DJ.  So in 2004 - when word-of-mouth bookings had Eric handling more DJ events than concerts - he decided to focus on DJ-ing - and SpinsterSound was officially born.

Equipment

We believe our sound systems are the secret to why everyone is still on the dance floor at the end of our shows.

We talk with a lot of bachelorettes at SpinsterSound, and most of them don't care a lick about the equipment we use.  Its certainly not as much fun as picking out a dress or a cake (and not as tasty as the later).  But please bear with us and we'll quickly explain why we think it's important.

• Large Rooms and Large Crowds Soak Up Sound.  A sound system that seems powerful in a small, empty room may not even be heard when you add 100 people in a typical reception room.  If a system has to exceed its limits, it may sound so bad that you don't want to hear it.

• Powerful Systems Do Not Sound LOUD.  Some people worry that a DJ will play too loud.  A well-designed, well-powered sound system - like ours - will never sound LOUD.  It will just sound right.  It won't knock out Grandma's teeth, like an underpowered/overdriven system can.  But a powerful system will keep your friends dancing like they're at a great nightclub.   SpinsterSound's systems are powerful, so they always sound right.
